Opinion Request #2

Since my last post worked out so well - I thought I'd try again...

If you've been to my house - you know that space is limited. We have no idea where Petunia is going to keep things, especially downstairs. Once we get the "nursery" ready - there will be plenty of room there - but who sits upstairs all day? No one!

Anywho - one of the first things needed for a baby is a bassinet or cradle for them to nap and sleep in for the first few months. It is extremely important to me to have something easily portable. I want to be able to have this downstairs with me during the day, and upstairs in my room at night. I don't want one of the HUGE ones that takes up a lot of space and that I couldn't lug up the stairs myself. Besides - space is limited in my downstairs as I said - so the smaller the better!

Here's one I've come across that folds up, and is SUPER portable! While I'm not nutso about the color in the picture - there are other colors available - and I want to stay gender neutral. I would really prefer an off-white or white, but the brand that carries those colors is more than twice the price...so I'll save some cash and go with a green or yellow.

What are your thoughts??

Cute, I like it, but will you really want to haul that thing up and downstairs all the time? Why do you need the bassinet downstairs? That's what baby monitors are for!

Super cute, but I agree with Stephanie...don't lug it up and down the stairs, just get some good baby monitors. I've had friends tell me the best invenstment are the video monitors.

I agree with all of you on the monitor - but you don't do that in the first few months when they sleep all the time - you usually keep them nearby...although I guess if I got a swing that was good - it could sleep in that!

you could get a moses basket. they are like $130 i think. audrey slept in it till she was about 3 mos old next to our bed at nite and sometimes i'd bring it downstairs during the day. it's super lightweight - you can even carry it up/down stairs with baby in it.

I am in agreement as well -- use the crib for upstairs and the baby sleeps in that and downstairs get a pack and play -- you'll be able to use it longer than that bassinet.

T - didn't you have a bassinet? I don't think I'll want Petunia in a crib all the time at night in the beginning.
Plus I have zero room for a pack and play downstairs once I get all the other misc. stuff!

Laura - HI! Wish I could do a Moses basket - they're ADORABLE - but I have two animals that need to be deterred by more than a basket.

I agree about the bassinet - not really necessary. I had one for Joey and had a stand for it that I kept next to the bed. As far as the rest of your day goes - The swing is a wonderful device, as is the baby papsan, which Marie you will love because it is green and cream - VERY gender neutral. Joey spent the majority of his time, including sleeping, in the baby papsan chair. Plus it vibrates and plays music. I would highly recommend something like that or a swing to keep downstairs, and then the bassinet upstairs.

I think I will just do a swing/chair downstairs. I found a few I like that I will post on here for all to see! :)

okay, how about this. i'll mail you our moses basket and you can try it out. i put it on a table next to our bed for at nite, and during the day, i usually put it on the couch. i have 2 crazy dogs. i've been really happy with how little attention they pay to the baby. i'm also not uptight about them sniffing her. if you haven't read up about animals and babies, do so now! it's better for them to sniff her than for me to punish them for getting close to her. they haven't tried to eat her or anything--they mainly leave her alone. audrey does love her swing, though, so it's downstairs by our couches, tv, etc. you can also get a vibrating bouncy chair for like $25. it's the cheapest baby product i bought and audrey's favorite. but when baby is reallllly little, yes, you won't want him/her sleeping in crib. you will want something for next to your bed. at least i did. send me your address and you can have the moses basket on hand, to give it a try. then when you're done with it, mail it back. !! how about that?? xoxo lh.

p.s. if you haven't already thought of this, definitely check out craig's list. i got our swing on there for $35, and it's almost brand new, retails for $125. plus, when i went there, the lady was selling a bunch more stuff that i hadn't found on there. and. if you have a little boy, my cousin lives in chicago and has had 2 boys in the last 3 yrs so she has a ton of stuff, clothes, etc. xoxo lh.
